Watermelon Slices

I have been fearful of giving the kids watermelon slices.  Turns out I was justified.  We had this watermelon for days with good intentions of feeding it outside to large groups of children.  But alas, out of site, out of mind and we never got it out of the fridge downstairs.  So finally I broke down and cut it up for Tuck and Kora.

They loved it and finished off half of it at one sitting. They both had juice running down their elbows and chins and big grins on their faces.  It was a hit.  But alas, next year we will have to find one with seeds.  What is summer without a watermelon seed spitting contest?

My Silly Mr Potato Head

Dear Tucker.

I feel like I have been keeping up better with Kora’s monthly reports and have been neglecting you.  I have all sorts of posts developed in my head but I have yet to actually get them done.  Here we go.

DSC01847

You are my sunshine, Son.  You make me laugh every single day.  Who else would have taken the potato head pieces and done this?  You are a nut and I love you so much it brings me to tears.  I am so proud of you.

I love our snuggle times every night before bed when you sit on my lap and insist on playing in my hair.  Then Daddy and I tuck you into bed and we blow each other one last kiss before I shut the door.

You have started telling me “I missssed you”.  The first time was at Walmart; you and Daddy had only been to the sporting good section while Kora and I picked up some soap, but it made my heart swell that you thought that was too long to be away.  Now you greet me every morning by saying it and it makes me smile each time.

You are the blondest little boy I know and so handsome to boot.  You have been outside so much this summer and the tanner you get the whiter your hair seems.  And your little “buttocks” is nearly as white.  With your tan you are literally my little redneck boy.

You are my favorite little boy.  Pssst!  I love you!!!

Tuck Loves Cake

I made a cake and Tucker helped me clean up.

Tucker Funnies from this week

Tuck has been coming up with some new doozies lately with his new vocabulary skills.  Here is a sample of the most recent:

Kora Jane= Coma Jame (this is monumental as it is his first attempt at saying her name, prior to this she has always been baby or my baby)
Chipmunk = chit-munk so...Dinner last night was chit-munk chops and breakfast on Sunday was chit-munk eggs; everything is better when you think it's from the back yard.
kitty = titty
raccoon = ha-toon
silly = sirry
stinky = tinky
yellow = lellow
green = geen

Please don't think it is all this challenging to interpret; for the most part he is fine and perfectly understandable.  These are just the few that make us laugh. And the best part is when you say the correct word he just tells you "Yeah" like that is exactly what he said.  Ah this kid.

Kora is 8 months old

Another month has passed, oh how fast it goes.

We gave you Cheerios for the first time.  They were a big hit.  You only have they two teeth but you can gum the daylights out of them.  You can pick them up with pincher fingers but you have to stuff your whole fist in your mouth to get them released.  You love your little bit of independence.  We started you one some cereal and you are liking it ok.

We were all sick for a week this month.  Mommy had bronchitis and you kids both had ear infections.  Kora has had quite a few this spring.  We were invited to a friends for a cook out but I played the responsible parent and kept you all home.

Mommy has been feeling poorly this month.  My thyroid levels have been out of balance.  I planned to wait for my regular appointment but I just couldn’t make it.  I was feeling so exhausted all the time.  Dr. Gray changed my dose and now I am back to chasing kids and playing again.  “Sirry Mommy” as Tuck would say.

You got to go to the Montgomery County Fair.  We went to see the Warren kids show sheep.  They did well and you enjoyed all the sights and sounds.  You fell asleep to the pounding of rain on the showbarn roof and missed the annual elephant ear; that was probably just as well, we don’t want you to develop a sweet tooth too soon.

You are still getting up twice a night to nurse.  Mommy is hoping we get over that soon and has been feeding you food and cereal later in the evening hoping to remedy this but to no avail.

It was a bittersweet time this month.  You had been staying with Mabel and Karen Geiger since Mommy went back to work.  She only had 2 other kids so you got LOTS of attention, which Mommy just loved (I think Mabel loved it too).  But this month we made the switch and you have started going to Missy’s with Tucker.  Missy loves having your tiny little self there and Mommy loves having one drop off point.  But I do miss Mabel.  She was such an integral part of our lives.DSC01878

You are officially on the move now.  You crawl very well now.  You do it on one knee and one foot.  You are pretty quick; you can be underfoot in no time at all.  You love playing with Tuck’s toys and chasing him around.  He loves teaching you how to crawl.

The day before you turned 8 months you pulled yourself up on the couch.  You struggled with it for a while and you had a red nose because you used your face as the third leg for stability.  But you did it.  I am afraid this crawling stage is not going to last long.

Your last big adventure this month was the Dale Family Reunion.  We had 4 of 5 generations represented with at least 85 people in our backyard.  This is your Nanna’s mom’s family.  Aunt Barkie was the oldest one here and you were the youngest until Patrick Wells’ daughter Aly arrived later in the afternoon (She’s 2 months younger than you are).  There was swimming, reminiscing, eating and game playing.  You, to your chagrin, were mothered and carried around all day; the Reid girls just loved you to pieces and the only time Mommy got you was when you were hungry.  Everyone had a good time and many wanted to be sure that we host again next year.  We’ll see since it was such a success.

I love you Little Miss and the personality you are starting to develop.  You are such a sweet even tempered happy baby and we love you so much.

Kora is 7 months

I cannot believe how the months have passed by.  You are beginning to show such personality these days.  It has been another big month.

You started to crawl.  It started out more lungeing forward when you were up on your toes.  Then it developed into an army crawl with lots of arm action. But within 10 days you were up on your hands and knees and making forward progress.  You are quick about picking up new things when you set your mind to it.  The desire to follow Tuck helps a lot too.

Auntie Brook took your 6 month pictures at Depauw in Greencastle.  She lives in Spencer so we meet half way.  She did an amazing job.  You were featured on her new website.  http://www.brookrieman.com/blog/2010/06/16/i-want-to-nibble-on-this-baby-bloomington-child-photographer/

Daddy is playing softball twice a week but it is so hot that we have not been going to the fields.  He is also working most weekends so we miss him lots.

We all went to the Wabash and Erie Canal in Delphi for their Open House.  It was such fun.  You can see the details on another blog post.

Aunt Rita and Uncle Chuck hosted a Hinds family BBQ.  It was outside at their woods.  You enjoyed yourself and fell asleep for Aunt Debbie when she took you on a walk.

You are getting to be quite the kid and we love you little one

Love Mommy
