This is a catch-up post. On June 19th Aunt Mary, Felix, Angie, Elizabeth, Tucker Kora and I went to Delphi for the grand opening of the new features at the Wabash and Erie Canal Visitors Center. It was a GREAT day as you will soon see. We all had a ball.
The kids LOVED playing on the canal boat. This one was donated and has been retrofitted as a playground for the kids. They can climb on all the decks where all the cargo was once stored. There is a slide and monkey bars and lots and lots of ladders (Mommy was a little apprehensive about Tucker climbing on all of those but Angie was a real sport and supervised and kept my heart at rest.)
Tucker got to pet the horses. This lady was riding side saddle and was a real pleasure to visit with. And of course, Tuck love the horse.
The kids all enjoyed playing in the visitor center. This is the concrete pig that Tucker really wanted to ride.
And we got to play dress up. Isn’t he just so cute in his bonnet?
Felix found a shirt to try on and I just adore the sleeping bonnet. I felt like “Half Pint” from Little House on the Prairie, getting ready for bed.
More hats
They had these 3 wheeled trolley’s for rent. The kids liked sitting on them and ringing the bell.
This is a really good picture of my Aunt Mary. She claims there is no such thing as a good picture of her but this is the best I’ve seen. The kids call her Aunt Nana.
This is Angie and and Elizabeth. Angie and I work together and Elizabeth is just 6 months older than Tuck. He and “Little E” are good buddies.
Aunt Mary and Felix rented one of the trolleys (for 15 minutes). Felix loved it (especially running thru all of the puddles); Aunt Mary, not so much.
There was a whole group of folks with the high wheel bicycles. They were a treat to watch.
And of course the day is not complete until you get to throw rocks in the canal.
Here we all are on the canal boat ride. The water was up with all of the rain so we could not make it under one of the bridges. We had fun looking over the edge for fish and turtles and listening to the narrators who were all in period dress.
He even has his corn cob pipe.
There was a replica of the canal with scale boats and locks. The kids spent A LOT of time here. They were soaked.
This little band played for us while we rested in the shade and had ice cream. They played Wheels on the bus for the kids and they were mesmerized by the puppet playing the banjo. Kora slept thru this part.
Here comes another canal boat!
See you next time
